Donald Trump’s cabinet selections are a great way to shake up the system. There has been speculation about who he might choose as Attorney General. Names such as former Missouri AG Andrew Bailey and former acting attorney general Matt Whitaker have been suggested.

Trump announced, in a surprising move that he has nominated Congressman Matt Gaetz for the AG position. Trump made the announcement Wednesday afternoon on Truth Social.

I have the great honor to announce that Matt Gaetz of Florida has been nominated as Attorney General of The United States. Matt Gaetz is a highly talented and tenacious lawyer, educated at William & Mary College of Law. He has distinguished himself as a member of Congress by his dedication to achieving the desperately needed reforms at the Department of Justice. There are few issues more important in America than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System. Matt will dismantle Criminal Organizations, end Weaponized Governments, and restore Americans’ lost faith and confidence in the Justice Department. Matt was a member of the House Judiciary Committee which oversees the DOJ. He played a major role in defeating Russia, Russia Russia Hoax, and exposing alarming Government Corruption and weaponization. He is a champion for the Constitution and Rule of Law…

Trump’s message about the selection continues:

Matt will eliminate the systemic corruption within the DOJ and restore the Department’s true mission, which is to fight crime and defend our Democracy and Constitution. At DOJ, we must ensure that there is honesty, integrity, and transparency. Matt will make all Americans proud of the Department of Justice.

Gaetz’s response to the announcement was “It would be an honor to serve President Trump as Attorney General!”

Although many of Trump’s choices have been lauded by the public, this one may face a roadblock from the Senate. The Senate will need to approve it. There will be pushback, regardless of whether Gaetz is ultimately confirmed.
