President-elect Donald Trump has called for California Governor Gavin Newsom to resign over the devastating wildfires raging through the Hollywood Hills. The fires have forced the evacuation of over 100,000 residents, destroyed numerous homes, and claimed at least five lives.

Late Wednesday, Trump took to Truth Social, stating, “One of the most beautiful parts of America is burning to the ground. It’s ashes, and Gavin Newscum should resign. This is all his fault!!!”

On Thursday morning, Trump doubled down, blaming both Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for “gross incompetence” in handling the crisis. “The fire has been spreading for three days with ZERO containment,” he posted. “Nobody has ever seen such failed numbers! Gross incompetence by Gavin Newscum and Karen Bass. And Biden’s FEMA has no money — all wasted on the Green New Scam! L.A. is a total wipeout!!!”

As hurricane-force wind spread the flames, the fires that started Tuesday night, including homes of celebrities and movie stars, grew.

Trump’s criticism of Newsom comes after he claimed Wednesday that wildfires in California were the “ultimate” price for having an “incompetent Governor.”

Trump said to reporters on Wednesday after attending meetings on Capitol Hill that it was “very sad” because he had been trying to convince Gavin Newsom to let water come in. You’d have a lot of water up there if they didn’t send water out from the Pacific. They were trying to protect tiny fish. “For the sake a smelt they have no water… You could say that the administration and the governor made a mistake.”

Newsom’s Office denied Trump’s claims Wednesday regarding the water situation.

The city used water tenders to supply water. This is often done to fight wildfires.

Newsom stated Tuesday that “there is not a water shortage in Southern California at the moment, despite Trump’s claims that he will open an imaginary spigot.”

He also criticized Trump for trying to “politicize the situation”.

The governor stated on X Wednesday, “People are fleeing. Kids have lost their schools. Communities have lost their churches. Families have lost their homes. Some have even lost their lives. And the President-Elect’s response is to politicize it. We’ll continue to focus on what matters: saving lives and putting out these unprecedented fires.”
