The court released an accused shooter in Memphis, Tennessee who had allegedly “ambushed” and hunted his victim. This was despite the district attorney’s request to keep him in jail.
Tyreese Earnest (18) was charged last month with attempted second-degree murder after he, along with two other conspirators, allegedly waylaid a FedEx worker in the parking area of a distribution center, where Earnest shot at him, according to WREG Memphis.
Earnest was booked on a $200,000 bail, but a judge last week decided that the accused shooter could be released without any bond.
Justice for the victim now depends on whether his would-be murderer shows up at his court date.
The local prosecutor is furious.
Steve Mulroy said that “the details of the alleged crimes, the fact that victim was ambushed and the violent nature it convinced us that this suspect poses a danger to public safety”.
Meanwhile, Earnest’s accused conspirators, twin brothers Ja’Marcus Odell and Ja’Marion Odell, are still in jail with $80,000 bonds, according to WREG.
Ja’Marion Odell admitted driving Earnest and Earnest’s brother to the scene. The pair has been charged with criminal facilitation which is a class A felony.
Brent Taylor, a State Senator, blasted both the DA’s office and the DA for not doing enough to keep the gunman behind bars.
Taylor wrote on X that “the [assistant District Attorney] in this case was weak as a kitten’s meow.” The ADA could have done just as well as a spectator in the audience.
