Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, has filed for reelection to 2026 despite reportedly being in “terrible shape” following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory and Republicans retaining their majority in the House and Senate.
The 84-year-old career politician has served in the House of Representatives since 1987, and he remained there after winning her 20th term.
According to the Federal Election Commission, she has been speaker of the House two times: from 2007-2011 and 2019-2023. She now plans to remain at the highest level of government and will file a return for 2026.
Pelosi, in an interview with the New York Times after her election, did not directly answer whether this would be her final term but she indicated that she intended to continue as a fighter force.
Pelosi said to the outlet, “I’m here not to discuss that. I am here to fight for the victory in the next elections. I must have thought that I would be able to repeat my last term, but fate had other plans.”
She is already expressing her dismay at Trump being in the White House.
It will be the first time since George W. Bush’s first term that she won’t be a part of the leadership team during a Republican Administration.
Although she denies playing a major role, the San Francisco mother-of-five is viewed as the key figure in ending Biden’s bid for reelection.
