According to friends who are raising money for Grimm’s treatment, the former U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm is paralyzed from the chest down. He was thrown from a horse during a polo game.

Grimm, aged 54, suffered the injury in September. He is being treated at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation (New Jersey). It is the same facility that treated Christopher Reeve in 1995, after a similar horse accident.

Ignizio claimed that Grimm had been a polo fan for many years. Ignizio reported that Grimm loved polo and that he suffered a tragic accident at the end of September.

Grimm is a former Marine and FBI agent, and he represented Staten Island and part of Brooklyn in Congress from 2011 to 2015.

In 2012, the federal government began an investigation into Grimm’s fundraising.

Grimm was elected in 2014 despite having been indicted. In the following month, Grimm pleaded guilty to a single charge of tax fraud.

Grimm attempted to comeback but lost his Republican primary in the old district. Dan Donovan, the incumbent congressman, lost his general election to Max Rose.

Rose was defeated in 2020 by Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis. Since then, she has represented the district.

Grimm hosted Newsmax for a time.

The GoFundMe Page for Grimm’s medical treatment raised $118,000. Ignizio said that Grimm’s goal was to walk again.
