According to My Chemical Romance, Bob Bryar has passed away. He was a former drummer who played in the band’s “Black Parade”, a career-defining rock opera. He was 44.

In a statement released on Sunday, a spokesperson from My Chemical Romance asked for patience and understanding while they processed the news of Bob’s death.

The statement contained no additional information.

Bryar replaced drummer Matt Pelissier in 2004, but in 2006 he suffered third-degree burns in an accident while on the set of a music video in 2006, the BBC reported. Bryar went on to face multiple complications from the injuries and was hospitalized for a staph infection.

BBC reported that in 2010, the band released a statement stating Bryar left the group. The BBC described it as a “painful choice”.

Bryar left the music industry and auctioned a drum set to raise funds for an animal adoption center in Williamson County Tennessee.

The band will embark next year on a stadium tour of North America, which will include ten dates. They will perform the full version of “The Black Parade”, released in 2006.

My Chemical Romance was formed in 2001. They released four studio albums throughout their career. The first album to break through was “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” from 2004. In 2013, they announced their breakup. A year later, a greatest hits compilation titled “May Death Never Stop You” was released. They announced their reunion in 2019 but later revealed they had reunited in private two years prior.
