A report in the New York Times published on Tuesday suggests that President Joe Biden is struggling with the idea of retiring from public service.
Peter Baker and Zolan Kano-Youngs of the NYT reported that after Democrats voted him out as their presidential nominee in July, Biden is not looking forward to ending his more than half-century-long career at the forefront of American politics.
Biden told his allies that he had dropped out of the election because he was angry, bored, and moody. He is angry that many Democrats oppose his pardoning of his son. It seems that the gloomy boredom was caused by being forced out of running for reelection.
Biden may be considered ready to retire, but he doesn’t seem to be. Even though there are reports about his health, he still appears to not want to give up the spotlight.
The Times article titled “A Weary Biden Heads for the Exit” published on Tuesday gave a glimpse of Biden’s state as he departs:
After speaking for 7 minutes in a humid day, with a loose blue shirt covering his body, he slowly began to shuffle down a dirt pathway. Several people who were not used to seeing the speaker up close held their breath as they feared he might trip. His gait, according to aides, was not any more unsteady.

Two people who were involved in the planning said that Mr. Biden was not allowed to enter the museum’s main building that afternoon to see the exhibits. Instead, artifacts from the museum were brought to him outside. This was because of the fear that the steep staircase would be too difficult. The White House denied the concern about the steep stairs and stated that he wasn’t brought inside due to scheduling and logistical issues.
…
Some of the people who traveled with Mr. Biden during those two trips noted that he kept a very light schedule and would sometimes murmur, making it difficult to understand him. He seemed to be ruminating as he approached the end of his professional career. He reminisced about the 1960 famous debate between John F. Kennedy, Richard M. Nixon, and others during a meeting in private.
David Hur, a Special Counsel at the Justice Department, described Biden as an old man with a poor memory in February. This report was not given much attention by the mainstream media. Biden was a top candidate until he was exposed in a horrible debate performance against Donald Trump.
